The corner house Bačić, today the Hotel Continental, was built in 1888 according to the project by the architect Mate Glavan from Sušak.
The then mayor of Sušak Hinko Bačić engaged Glavan for the construction of the famous building at the very entrance into the city from the Lujzinska road, on a turf along the Rječina river. A monumental edifice was built with characteristics of historicistic style modelled after the buildings from throughout the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy.
By opening the Caffe-Restaurant Continental, Sušak gained a new centre of cultural and political life, and the size of the building demonstrates its importance. After the construction, the surrounding area was arranged and an alley of chestnuts was planted.
The palace Bačić is a corner four-storey building with two three-room apartments on every floor. The apartments have a kitchen, two rooms, a hall and toilet facilities.
The historicistic features can be seen in the façade pilasters, decorative attic on the roof and figurative allegories of Fortune and Mercury.
The Hotel was restored in 2008 and operates within the company Jadran Hoteli d.d.
Valorization:
The building is not included in the List of Protected Cultural Goods in the Republic of Croatia Register of Cultural Goods.
